A 140-Acre Forest Is About to Materialize in the Middle of Detroit
By Good News Network Tuesday, October 29, 2013 USA – USA Detroit
After nearly five years of planning, a large-scale attempt to turn a big chunk of Detroit blight into an urban forest is now underway. The purchase of more than 1,500 vacant city-owned lots on the city’s lower east side – a total of more than 140 acres – got final approval from Detroit Emergency Manager Kevyn Orr and Michigan Governor Rick Snyder earlier in October.
Yep Mike McDonald is a slippery fella.
He didn’t show up this morning and apparently he’s just been ringing up in the last few days saying he can’t make the appointment, it’s too far since he lives in Pukekhohe (which he doesn’t, he lives in Waiau Pa), can’t get a baby sitter etc. He further asserted that he had spoken to the minister of courts and was told a teleconference could be arranged. But there was no time to arrange this, this morning.
And they suggested 1) They do the hearing today and issue a judgement today but he would request a rehearing and that could take some time or b) it’s adjourned for today but they will set another date asap and he will have to attend that. But even then he may be able to attend via phone.
So I have taken their advice and it’s adjourned today. The court will send out notice of the new date asap.
So he lives for another day…
But of course he can’t keep running forever…
Update: A new date and time for the hearing has been set: 28th November 11:30 am. And the soft-as referee has allowed Mike McDonald to appear via telephone. Which I find quite amazing. Turns out all you have to do to evade your responsibilities is say stuff like “It’s too far” and “I can’t get a baby sitter” and the court staff will bend over backwards to help you do so.
Turns out the illness Greg King was suffering from was depression:
Defence lawyer Greg King was ‘haunted’ by crimes
LEGAL MIND: Greg King during the Ewen Macdonald murder trial last year.
Top lawyer Greg King took his life, depressed, burnt-out, and haunted by the dead from the cases he had known.
Coroner Garry Evans has released his findings into the death of Mr King, 43, whose body was found on November 3, last year, in Dungarvan Rd, Newlands, Wellington, not far from his Mercedes car.
In the car was a typewritten note that began:
“To everyone: How can I explain the unexplainable?”
It said that after nearly 20 years as a defence lawyer he was burnt out, disillusioned and depressed.
“He says he is haunted by the dead from his numerous homicide cases and hates himself for what he has done,” Mr Evans said.
“He says he has been genuinely torn between doing his job and his conscience, which keeps asking him ‘Is this really what you want to do doing?'”
I’ve had my brushes with depression and wouldn’t wish it on anyone. But man I’ve got to say, if you spend your life getting guilty guys off of murders and other heinous crimes, then it’s bound to leave you and a bad mental state.
People would wonder how anyone doing this for a living could sleep at night. Well perhaps the answer is “They can’t”.
I was very interested to read this bit:
Ms Milnes-King had told the coroner her husband had a massive breakdown in June 2012 the night after delivering his closing address for Ewen Macdonald in the Scott Guy murder trial.
This tells us all something about the guilt/innocence of this guy.
So funny to see the government battling the RBNZ. Left hand fighting the right hand really:
RBNZ in discussions about potential for exempting new home builds from high LVR speed limit, English says
By Bernard Hickey
Finance Minister Bill English has pointed to ongoing discussions between the Reserve Bank and new home builders about whether high Loan to Value Ratio (LVR) loans for new buildings should be exempted.
Asked ahead of a National Party caucus meeting if he thought the Reserve Bank should exempt new builds from its 10% speed limit on mortgages with an LVR over 80%, English said it was up to the Reserve Bank, and he understood it was discussing the issue.
Rest of Article
So we have an ‘independent’ reserve bank. But the government keeps bringing in changes to circumvent the changes the RBNZ is trying to bring about.
Why don’t they just stop the pretence, and make the RBNZ another department, and tell them what to do?
Len Brown has been having an affair:

The woman alleged to have had an affair with Auckland mayor Len Brown is Bevan Chuang.
She stood in the recent elections in the Albert-Eden Local Board – Maungawhau Subdivision elections and is currently the chair of the Asian Women and family Trust and member of the Ethnic Peoples Advisory Panel.
She came fifth in the competition for four seats in the wasn’t elected Maungawhau Subdivision of the Albert-Eden Local Board.
Chuang spoke to the Herald last year about seeking a sperm donor to help her make a ‘dragon baby’. She said at the time she was desperate to have a “dragon baby” – and determined not to let the fact that she didn’t have a partner hinder her plans.
The Hong Kong-born woman was seeking a donor to give her a child through artificial insemination.
Well man, this guy takes the cake.
He spends spends spends and then cheats on his wife with a 25 year old council associate.
Well in my opinion he should bugger off and go and do this sort of thing on his own time and with his own money.
Well the whole Mike McDonald (of McDonald and Co. Accountants) saga has taken a bit of a twist.
I had know for some time that the IRD were investigating Mike McDonald. 5 months ago or so they called to get a copy of the lease. I asked why they just couldn’t ask Mike McDonald for it and they said they wanted a ‘clean’ copy i.e. an unaltered copy. So I complied with this, in fact the IRD forced me to.
And Mike McDonald said at the time he was being audited. He was behind in his taxes so they were looking into him.
But then I got a call last week from a former client of Mike McDonald’s last week who said that he had been forwarding a percentage of his income to Mike McDonald for some years. And Mike McDonald was supposed to pay the GST, withholding tax etc. and charge a fee for doing that.
But the IRD have just contacted him to say the GST has not been paid, and nor has some of his income taxes. And even more astounding, was the fact that he was still responsible to the IRD for these unpaid taxes! So this poor guy owes tens of thousands of dollars to the IRD through no fault of his own.
Now I must emphasize that these allegations are via this third party and so I can’t be 100% sure they’re correct. But I have spoken at length with this person, searched them on the internet etc. and their story sounds perfectly true to me.
This person has laid a complaint with the police. I have just rung the Manukau Police and spoken to the officer dealing with the case. He’s part of the Counties Manukau financial investigation team. And yes they are looking into Mike McDonald. He also said they are in contact with the IRD .
This person actually went on to say that the IRD told him that Mike McDonald has done similar things to a number of other clients. And further, that jail time could be a real possibility. But of course I have no evidence for this and there’s probably a fair amount of water to go under the bridge yet.
The only remaining question I have is this? Where did all the money go? Just on the items I listed in a previous post (cars, holidays etc.)? Or somewhere else?
The main reason I’m writing this blog entry is to warn other clients of Mike McDonald’s. Because as far as I know, he was still doing this last week.
I have also tracked Mike McDonald down. So I now know where he lives which will be handy for serving notices etc. should anyone want to do so.
So only 5 years after getting into office they’ve actaully done something!
6000 new homes, 500 of which are in Papakura. Good news all round really.
